30th-Jan-2009 06:07 pm - Too long since an update
JennFaereality
Okay.... I didn't realize how long I had honestly neglected this journal.  Sorry!

Anyhoo.... I've been busy creating new artwork, sewing, and volunteering.

Several new artworks have gone up since my last post.  You'll have to check out my gallery at my website just to make sure you see everything.

Sewing... I'm making a new "2.0" version of my Star Wars Padme (Natalie Portman) costume from Episode III.  The Green Velvet dress seen in the movie just before Anakin goes and stops Mace Windu from taking down the Emperor.  I love this dress, and I am making it bigger and better than my previous "1.0" version.  It's gonna be HUGE!  Think Civil War era dress width.  Yeah.... that big!  LoL

And as for volunteering... I am not only part of the Rebel Legion Star Wars costuming group, but it has opened some other volunteering doors for me as well.  I am now part of the SheVaCon (sci-fi & fantasy convention) and will be the new Art Room Director for 2010, and also their new Web-Mistress.  So... when I officially take over, I'll be sure to let everyone know.

So... until next time...

17th-Aug-2008 02:33 pm - So much has been going on... wow!
JennFaereality
Okay... it's been a few weeks since my last entry.  I apologize for that.

My life has just been hectic.  So many projects going at the same time... having to juggle them and still find time to do the things that need to be done.

Anyways.... I have completed one website I was working on.  It turned out great and they are very happy with it.  I am almost finished with the second website... just have one more section to complete... but the 'clients' haven't sent me any content to put up.  So... I'm playing the waiting game with that.

As for my recent works...

The 'Breaking Dawn' cover art concept.  That was for the Barnes & Noble release party for the Stephenie Meyer book, 'Breaking Dawn' that came out August 2nd.  It's the 4th and final book of the series.  I read it in 2 days... all 756 pages worth!  It was a wonderful ending to a wonderful saga.  There have been some bad reviews for it and some good.  (good outweighing the bad)  And I think it's because the core audience of the books is meant to be young adult/teens.  And the characters of the book are growing up... and quite possibly it's a little difficult for the main audience to relate to.  I however had no problem relating to it.  :-)  I just thought it was simply amazing.  If you haven't read the series yet.... I encourage you to check it out.  It was a very fun and unique twist on the whole "vampire" scene.

And then we have my latest creation... Aqua Elegance.  She's a new faery.  I started creating her this weekend, and before I knew it I was done.  She turned out beautiful!  If you haven't seen her yet... go check her out on the faery page!

Oh, and I have officially started work on my new Star Wars costume.  I'm making the Green Velvet dress worn by Natalie Portman (Padme) in Episode III, Revenge of the Sith.  It is simply a stunning dress.  I made one version of it last year, although it was a bit rushed.  While it looked good, it wasn't up to my standards for authenticity.  So I'm making a 2.0 version that will be more accurate.  :-)  I'll post pics of the progress as I go along.  Right now I'm just in the pattern phase and there really isn't much to show.

But that's about it for now.  I'll write again soon :-)

After some time spent checking up on my favorite fantasy artists, and then going around to the different art communities and such I decided to start on a creation that I hope will bring strength, courage, and hope to those in need. It is my most recent gallery addition, 'Selina - Think Pink!'.

On Deviantart.com, there is a contest that is held by one of the members there, called "Think Pink" and it is to help promote awareness and research for breast cancer. I personally think that this is a great cause, and I entered it last year as well.

However this year, I feel that my subject is a little more meaningful this time around. See... back in February of this year, fellow fantasy artist, Selina Fenech, was diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer. When I first saw this announcement on her website, I was completely shocked. And then I was sad, because she's such a great talent in this world, and such a huge inspiration. I wanted to do something nice for her, something that would help support what she's going through (as well as many other women), and perhaps give her a little extra bit of hope and strength. So I based my entry on one of her stock photos she has up on Deviantart. You can also see it here on my gallery too... here.

I have sent an email to Selina with the creation attached. I currently am not selling prints of this work, although one idea did occur to me that I included in my email to Selina. And that idea is to sell prints of this piece and have all of the proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Fund to help with research and awareness. I have not heard back from Selina, as I'm sure she gets a ton of email every day to sort through. But hopefully this might be a great thing in the making to help her, as well as others. I'll keep everyone posted though! :-)

Until next time....

20th-Jul-2008 02:40 pm - New Mermaid... and Star Wars...
JennFaereality
Entry from July 14th:

I finally had some time this weekend to work on some artwork... as you might have noticed if you visited the News & Updates page... or the Mermaid Gallery. It's a new piece that I call 'Remembrance'. I'm not really sure what inspired me... but when I started, I could barely stop to sleep. But I'm very happy with how she turned out.

And of course... there is more news on the Star Wars front. There is going to be a midnight sale at Toys R Us for the release of all of the new Clone Wars toys - and my husband wants to dress up in full armor and "troop". Although he recently spoke to the manager of the local TRU, and apparently they said "No, no costumes", but then said to call the toll-free # for TRU to find out more info. Weird. The only people that are going to be in the store at that time are SW fans like ourselves... so... I don't see why costumes would be an issue. But I guess it depends on the individual management of each store. It's not like he's going to be causing a commotion or anything... just standing there in armor, looking like a dork. LoL

But that's really all that's been going on... But I'll write again soon. Thanks for reading!

20th-Jul-2008 02:37 pm - Website and other stuff....
JennFaereality
Entry from July 8th:

Okay.. I'M FINALLY DONE WITH THE WEBSITE! Yay! Now I can focus my time towards some of the other projects that I've been working on for the past 2 months. And soon, I will be working on some new artwork to put up too. On a side note... my husband, Paul... he has officially completed his Storm Trooper armor and has submitted his application to become part of the 501st Legion. It's really exciting! Once he's approved and assigned his TK#, he will be able to go out and 'troop' with the other guys at different events and charities. That just leaves me to start on the re-make of my Green Velvet Dress. I've gone to such lengths to have fabric that actually looks the same as the costume worn by Natalie Portman in Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Now that I have purchased all of the fabric... I just have to get started making the costume. Currently, I'm still working on the patterns for it - because there really is no true pattern for that dress. So you just kinda have to mesh several different patterns together to get the right look. I did it once before, but this time I'm going for more accuracy. And yes, there will be photos of the progress for everyone to see. But I just have to figure out a few more things and then I'll get started on it.

But that's about it for now... I'll write again soon

20th-Jul-2008 02:36 pm - It's Done!!!
JennFaereality

Entry from July 4th:

Well, it's finally getting done... the re-design for my website. I tell ya, I've just had so many projects going on recently. Haven't hardly had a free moment. If I'm not working, I'm sitting here in front of the computer. Sadly enough, I haven't had enough time to actually create any new artwork though. All of my free time has been spent working on webpages over the past 2 months it seems. But now that everything is finally getting completed... it won't be long until I have something new for all to see. So check back soon... because you never know when that might be. :-)
